A Little Bit Of History

Thought I should give you a little bit of history about George and I and when our relationship started in the big wide world.

I went into labour at 6am on the 3rd of January and after 4 hours went to the hospital. When they examined me I was already 8cm so I went straight to the labour suit. I was then in labour for another 4 hours. They then had to pop my waters as they wouldn't pop on their own. When they did they found that he had pooed in his waters so they had to monitor his heart beat and my contractions to make sure that he was OK. After roughly an hour of pushing he started to make an appearance but his shoulder got stuck and they were having trouble helping to remove him. Then they saw that the cord was around his neck and he was going blue, so they were desperately trying to get him out quickly. He then appeared and was laid on me and he wasn't breathing, His face was bright blue and his body was completely white. They took him away straight away and resuscitated him, and then brought him in to quickly show Ainslie and I and then quickly whisked him off to NICU.

They said he had HIE grade 2- Moderate neonatal Encephalopathy. He had suffered badly and was traumatised, was very tense and was having seizures. They kept him sedated to make sure that his muscle wouldn't weaken from the hypotonia and to let his brain heal quicker. He also suffered from Respiratory distress syndrome (Struggle to breathe because of immature lungs) as he was born at 38+4weeks. They then discovered he also had Gastro-oesophageal reflux (Acid reflux).

I was unable to touch him until he was four days old and I wasn't able to hold him until he was 6days old. This was obviously a very hard time for me. I stayed in hospital with him until he was discharged when he was 7days old.

He is now safe and home with me and is growing to be a strong and healthy little boy, and although that was a tough time, it really made me appreciate every moment with George. Here's a few photo's showing our first week and also what labour had done to face! enjoy...

    1. Made me cry writing it and finding appropriate photos. Some photos are just so heart breaking, how swollen he was and how much pain he was in.
